Concord Action: New CBO Projections Show Congress Needs to Get Serious About the National Debt
In response to the release of “The Budget and Economic Outlook: 2026 to 2036” by the Congressional Budget Office today, Carolyn Bourdeaux, Executive Director of Concord Action, made the following statement:
“The 10-year budget outlook is a dire warning of what the future holds as our national debt approaches $40 trillion. In this election year, every candidate for federal office should be asked what they would do to improve today’s unsustainable projections. No answers? No votes.
Our continued fiscal irresponsibility constrains America’s ability to invest in national priorities and shakes investor confidence in our national financial footing. Unless Congress gets serious about addressing the national debt, we will leave behind a nation with a weakened standing in the world and a crippled economy for future generations.”
