WASHINGTON, D.C., November 7, 2025 – In response to reporting about negotiations to end the federal government shutdown, Concord Action Executive Director Carolyn Bourdeaux released the following statement:
“Talks to end the federal government shutdown are getting real, but neither party is taking a fiscally responsible approach. If the final result adds to the $38 trillion national debt, that’s ultimately going to raise interest rates and the cost of living, and increase the risk of a debt-driven economic meltdown. Even worthy policy priorities should be paid for. If Congress takes on new spending like extending Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies, it should do so without adding to the debt.”
