
In response to the House narrowly passing the budget resolution today, Carolyn Bourdeaux, Executive Director of Concord Action released the following statement:
“On its face, the budget resolution approved by the House today, this so-called ‘big, beautiful bill,’ still paves the way to add a giant, terrifying $5.8 trillion in new debt that we can’t afford. While this vote was secured with a commitment from House leadership that the final bill will include offsets to make this deficit-neutral, the American people deserve more than pinky promises. We urge Congress to ensure this commitment is paired with a tough enforcement mechanism and is scored by the Congressional Budget Office as not increasing the deficit. Any Member of Congress claiming to care about fiscal responsibility owes the American people at least this level of honesty, not more budget gimmicks and accounting tricks.”
