Statement from Concord Action on State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, DC – February 24, 2026 – In response to tonight’s State of the Union address, Carolyn Bourdeaux, Executive Director of Concord Action, released the following statement:

“We appreciate the President’s nod to a balanced budget in his State of the Union speech, but his proposals did not move us closer to that goal. While eliminating fraud in federal programs is a very important goal, it’s not going to balance the federal budget.

We remain on an unsustainable fiscal path. To correct our course, Congress must make the hard choices to close a nearly-two-trillion-dollar annual deficit, retool Social Security and Medicare before their trust funds are depleted, and stick to the lawful budget and appropriations processes.”
