(Dublin, Ga. – July 24, 2026) – With the national debt projected to reach $40 trillion this fall, Concord Action National Field Director Phil Smith joined the Dublin Rotary Club Friday to explain how the country reached this point and why it matters to Middle Georgia residents.
During the presentation, Smith discussed rising interest costs, the financial pressure facing Social Security and Medicare, and the long-term consequences of continuing current federal spending and tax policies without a plan to pay for them.
“Forty trillion dollars can feel like a number that has little connection to everyday life, but the consequences are real,” Smith said. “Growing debt means higher interest costs, greater pressure on programs Americans depend on and fewer resources for future priorities. We can still change course, but citizens must demand that Congress stop delaying the hard choices and start paying for the policies it approves.”
Smith also encouraged attendees to contact their elected officials and advocate for responsible budgeting, honest trade-offs and meaningful action to slow the growth of the debt.
Concord Action is building a national grassroots movement to address the federal debt before the country faces a more serious fiscal crisis.
