(Arlington, VA – Sept. 1, 2026) – Concord Action Executive Director Dr. Carolyn Bourdeaux released the following statement in response to the U.S. House passing a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund government spending until Dec. 11:
“Just in time for the kickoff of another football season, Congress has completed its ‘Punt on Second Down’ strategy on this year’s federal spending. With the House rubber-stamping the Senate’s stopgap Continuing Resolution (CR), members of Congress have ensured that they won’t make any tough budget decisions at least until after they face their voters on Election Day.
“Congress needs to realize that its main job isn’t to simply avoid government shutdowns or to endlessly campaign for reelection. Congress’ number one job every year – as stated in Article I, Section 9, of the Constitution – is to exercise real oversight of federal spending by passing real appropriations bills.
“With Washington now over $40 trillion in debt and bleeding two trillion dollars in additional deficit spending every year, the time for punting on fiscal responsibility is over. It’s time to do the real, hard work, and if Congress doesn’t do that, they shouldn’t get paid. The No Budget No Pay Act may be the only way to get Congress to do its job and get serious about our federal budget mess.”
