MEDIA ADVISORY: Fiscal Experts to Tackle Health Care Costs and $40 Trillion National Debt at Emory

Press Releases

(Atlanta, Ga.) – Health care costs are one of the biggest pressures facing American families and the federal budget. At the same time, the national debt has now surpassed $40 trillion, raising new questions about how Washington can meet its commitments without continuing to pass an ever-growing bill to future generations.

Thursday, September 10, former U.S. Rep. and Concord Action Executive Director Dr. Carolyn Bourdeaux will join former Comptroller General of the United States David M. Walker and Emory Professor and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Health Policy at the US Department of Health and Human Services Kenneth E. Thorpe for a panel discussion at Emory University examining the intersection of health care, federal spending and the nation’s worsening fiscal outlook.

The conversation will look at the pressures driving federal deficits including social security and health care spending as well as the revenue implications and what policymakers should be considering as the country confronts a $40 trillion national debt.

Bourdeaux will be available for media conversations surrounding the event.
