Executive Director Carolyn Bourdeaux Responds to House Continuing Resolution

Press Releases

After the House passed a continuing resolution to fund the government through September 30, Carolyn Bourdeaux, Executive Director of The Concord Coalition and Concord Action, released the following statement:

“The House just passed a continuing resolution that papers over the mess that is our national budget with more deficit spending and more debt.

“It is extremely important to keep the government open and running, but the chaos and short-term funding deals from Congress continually kick the can down the road and make our fiscal situation worse. Meanwhile, many of the poorly considered and likely illegal cuts by DOGE are adding to the chaos, confusion and dysfunction.

“To put today’s vote into perspective: the House finally passed a budget, almost halfway through the fiscal year, that will continue our path of $2 trillion in annual shortfalls for another year, adding to our unsustainable $36 trillion national debt,  with no assurances that the executive branch will even pay any attention to the budget as passed.

“And, at the same, Congress is working in parallel on a new budget bill that is expected to add another $3 trillion to the national debt. It’s time for Congress to actually do its job: pass a budget on time and with a serious path forward to reducing deficits and addressing our unsustainable national debt.”
