Concord Action Statement on Senate Introduction of 3% Resolution

March 20, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 20, 2026: Concord Action Executive Director Carolyn Bourdeaux issued the following statement on U.S. Senate introduction of legislation that would aim to cut the federal budget deficit from around 6 percent to 3 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), by 2030:

“Enacting this legislation would effectively cut the deficit in half, and significantly reduce the risk of a debt-induced economic meltdown. Concord Action applauds U.S. Sens. Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Angus King (I-Maine), Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Dave McCormick (R-Penn.) for their leadership on this bipartisan legislation, and we encourage all Senators to support it  – and then to take real action to build this benchmark into budget resolutions and budget bills.”
