(Arlington, VA – Aug. 8, 2026) – Concord Action Executive Director Dr. Carolyn Bourdeaux released the following statement in response to U.S. Senate approval of a short-term stopgap spending bill that avoids tough decisions and instead punts their legally mandated budget responsibilities until after Election Day:
“As we approach $40 trillion in debt and 25 years since a balanced budget, our ‘leaders’ on Capitol Hill continue to punt their responsibilities past the next elections. American taxpayers deserve some strong budget quarterbacks who will effectively make real progress toward the end zone – not hundreds of punters who are simply interested in delaying tough decisions beyond their next elections.”
