Executive Director Carolyn Bourdeaux Responds to President Trump’s Address to Congress

Press Releases

In response to President Trump’s joint address to Congress on March 4, 2025, Carolyn Bourdeaux, Executive Director of The Concord Coalition and Concord Action issued the following statement:

“Tonight, the President made a commitment to a balanced budget and to reducing the ballooning federal debt. Unfortunately, the numbers don’t add up – they don’t even come close. We are $36 trillion in debt and have $2 trillion in annual deficits. That is trillion with a ‘t’. The President proposed even more trillions in new tax cuts and spending but mentioned only trivial offsets. At best, DOGE reports $100 billion in savings, but most likely it is only saving one-tenth of that amount. You can’t balance the budget with gimmicks and magic pixie dust – in the end, the numbers don’t lie. It’s time to get serious.”
